- RARE, comprising striking views of Dunedin (founded in 1848) during the Otago goldrush years, including images of the port, residential and commercial areas.
The photographs were taken by Dunedin photographer William Melluish in the early 1860s, his own shop ("Melluish's Portrait Gallery") is depicted in the view of Printer's Street. A pencil annotation records that he also owned the Octagon Hotel "burnt down in 1867". They were not issued as a collection until Coxhead purchased the glass plates. This copy has the publisher's sheet entitled "Dunedin 23 years Ago" comparing the names and uses of fifty sites "As it Was" and "As it is", three of the prints including reference numbers in the plate.
