  • Comprising: China (20, including 2 views of the stand of the Shanghai racecourse, and a series of 16 (measuring 105 x 145mm.) of which several are hand-tinted; Japan (39 images, mostly costume portraits and many attributable to Farsari); Singapore (4, including weavers at work outdoors and another by Lambert with blindstamps, and 2 silver gelatin prints associated with the very serious sepoy mutiny of 1915, one showing marines from H.M.S. Cadmus, and the other Japanese sailors from either Otowa or Tsushima who along with French and Russian detachments were sent to assist the numerically weak British forces.
