An unusual "snap shot" of the environment of a missionary life in Southern India. Albumen prints include views of Madras (7, one of the Railway workshop), Ootacamund (2), 7 native studies (4 of bullock carts), 6 Missionary school groups ("Native girls & teacher of the Mission of the Established Church of Scotland - Madras"; "Mrs Andersson, Free Church Mission & Boarding School Girls"; "Bombay Free Ch. Mission School"; "Mrs Tabitha Bamboo, wife of the Rev. K.M. Bamboo and a group of the high caste girls (not professed Christians) of the first Girls Day School in Madras of the F.C. of Scotland, 1873"), and approximately 50 portraits of Europeans, including a large image of Sir Mark Cubbon (1775-1861, British Governor of Mysore), 5 gentlemen captioned "Some of the standard bearers of 1843", "Revd & Mrs Webber, Bangalore", "Lieut. Court, 44th Regt. and his charger", and a few locals. Other ephemera includes a large watercolour of a white horse, a watercolour on mica of a roadside rice salesman, an actual "piece of the lining of the tent of the late Theodoro of Abyssinia", a dried thistle "from the Grave of Robt.
