Footnotes

  • The flyleaf is inscribed "Logan Home, Broomhouse, Duns, Berwickshire", and appears to have been put together by W.J. Logan Home, son of Annie Logan Home (neé Doran). She has annotated the image of the Auberge de Castille in Valletta (R.A. and R.E. Mess) as her birthplace, and is one of the sitters in two groups with her Irish family at Ely House Wexford. The arrangement of the images is somewhat haphazard and includes views in Germany and Italy with statuary, religious art, various associated with R.M.A. Woolwich around 1866, and:

Malta (8 including a 3-part panorama, with creases); Alexandria and Egyptian types (19); Suez; India (approximately 50 including a number of Bourne's smaller views of Himalayas, Delhi and Agra; 4 Himalayan images including the mouth of a glacier and all signed in the image by G.T. Sparke; an elaborately captioned group series relating to various companies of Bengal Sappers & Miners and bridging work over the Indus, several signed in the image by W.L. Carrey including a fine portrait of native NCOs with all the sitters identified with their ranks).
