In order to save complications I want you to send them the negatives you made of the Antarctic maps - 3 of them or more"); also hoping that Simpson soon recovers from a bad cold, and enclosing a cheque, 2 pages, on a single bifolium, slight browning, 8vo, Regent St., '1st Jan' [1915]

Footnotes

  • Mawson to Scott's meteorologist George Simpson, who was working with him in London in the run up to publication of The Home of the Blizzard and his forthcoming lecture tour in America. The Antarctic maps under discussion may relate to the lecture tour, or possibly a brochure being prepared by Lloyd's Film Agency Ltd. to promote the Frank Hurley film of Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911-1914. The film was screened in London from 20 April to 5 May 1915, in an attempt to help reduce or eliminate the expedition's debt. Sadly the agency was to go into liquidation as cinema audiences dwindled during the War, and the film didn't live up to Mawson's expectations.
