Footnotes

  • THE HOME OF THE BLIZZARD: "We are just about to step ashore at our new home here at Commonwealth Bay". Mawson writes home full of wonder at the scenery, on the day the Aurora set sail and left the main western party in what seemed to be an ideal natural harbour, but which turned out to be little more than one continuous blizzard.
