An Edward VII silver rose bowl, PRESENTED BY THE OFFICERS OF HMS BULWARK TO ROBERT AND KATHLEEN SCOTT ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR MARRIAGE, inscribed "From/ Ward Room Offciers,/ H.M.S. "Bulwark"./ 2nd. September, 1908", circular form with moulded girdle and flying scroll handles, on a spread circular foot, height 22.8cm., handle to handle 23.8cm., weight 37oz.

  • "By permission of King Edward, one of the most interesting weddings of the year took place the day before yesterday at the chapel, Hampton Court Palace, which was profusely decorated for the occasion. Some hundreds of people who could not gain admission were content to stand in the corridors outside. The bridegroom is well known in New Zealand. He was Captain R.F. Scott, C.V.O., R.N.... All the officers of the Discovery and of His Majesty's ship Bulwark - Captain Scott's present vessel - were there. Many and numerous were the presents received, including a handsome silver bowl from the officers of the Discovery and an equally beautiful rose bowl from the officers of H.M.S Bulwark" (Otago Witness, Issue 2854, 25 November 1908, page 74). Inlcuded in the lot is a photographic postcard of the ship.

    Provenance: Captain R.F. Scott, and thence by descent to Sir Peter Scott; subsequently purchased by the London Silver Vaults; sold by Clive Farahar in 1986; private collection until present.
