Of baluster form, the hinged dome lid with urn finial, double scroll wood handle with leaf junction, the body engraved with a crest within an oval cartouche surmounted by a rosette and husk swag, raised on a stepped circular foot, height 29.3cm, weight total 22.5oz.

The current lot is more than likely a present for the wedding of Robert Duncombe Shafto of Whitworth Park, co Durham to Charlotte Rosa Baring in 1838.
Miss Baring was daughter of MP William Baring, and Robert Duncombe Shafto served as MP for North Durham 1847-63.
