A late 18th century Dutch silver tobacco box
possibly by Jan van Geelen or Abraham E. Hoeks, Schoonhoven, with later Dutch tax mark
Rectangular form, the hinged lid engraved with three circular reserves, two containing bowls of fruit and flowers, flanking the third depicting a young boy looking out to sea, all below ribbon-tied husk swags, all-over engraved with zig-zag borders and lineal embellishments, the inside of the cover engraved 'K. d Boer', gilt interior, length 14.4cm, weight 7.5oz.
