GERALD BENNEY: A silver and silver gilt centrepiece
by Gerald Benney, London 1964
Shallow open work cover, centred with silver gilt stylised snowflake, with nine textured bars set with baguette cut topaz gem stones, all issuing from a spiralling centre, suspended in the centre of a octagonal frame with eight applied plates, surrounded by a polished border, the shallow circular bowl with lightly hammered surface and gilt interior, diameter 21cm, weight 31oz.

  • Gerald Benney created centrepieces such as this, of various designs, for four decades. Most were commissioned by private patrons and institutions, notably the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Reading University.
