A collection of 18th/19th century mother of pearl Chinese gaming counters
Comprising; 198 fish examples of varying date, size and decoration, 165 with 'billing bird' motif, twenty-one plain, and two with scales to both sides, 166 round examples, of varying date, size and decoration, some monogrammed, forty-nine shuttle examples of varying date, size and decoration, seventeen rosette-shaped examples, each engraved with a European-style flower to one side and with billing bird motif to the other, of varying dates and sizes, together with 267 other examples of varying date, size and decoration, all contained within two laquered cases each with five counter boxes, the first, black, red and gilt depicting Chinese buildings, the cover with two central figures, the second with central cartouche depicting a Chinese village with Greek Key borders and elaborate diaper background, the smaller boxes with further village scenes and similar borders, length of boxes 29.5cm and 29.7cm.
