A George III four-piece tea and coffee service

Comprising: teapot, hot water pot on stand, sugar basin and cream jug, of compressed baluster form with gadrooned rims, demi-gadrooned bodies, the pots with slightly domed covers and bud finials, the embellished loop handles with floral motifs and ivory insulators, the stand and burner on three foliate scroll and paw legs, the tea service on four ball feet, height of coffee pot and stand 30cm, weight total 94oz. (5)

Footnotes

  • The crest is of THACKERAY of Harrow. The crest was granted in 1755 to Dr Thomas Thackeray and among those of his descendents who used it legitimately was the famous writer William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863).

    By family repute, the tea service belonged to W M Thackeray and thence by descent to the late Brigadier K R S Trevor CBE DSO, father of the current owner.
