Bernard Lens (British, 1682-1740)
Richard III (1452-1485), the last Plantagenet King of England (1483-1485), wearing dark green Houppelande edged with brown fur and slashed at the sleeve to reveal brown doublet striped with gold, white linen shirt, black cap with teardrop pearl suspended from a gold jewelled clasp, matching jewelled collar worn over his Houppelande, painted against a blue ground with gold border.
Watercolour on vellum, signed on the obverse with gilt monogram BL, wood mount bearing the inscription K.Richard.III in gold, rectangular ebonised wood frame, the reverse inscribed 10/ King Richard III,/ 1485/ Bernd. Lens Fecit/ 1732.
