A pair of portrait miniatures of a Husband and Wife; the former, wearing dark blue coat with brass buttons, crimson waistcoat edged with gold, white chemise, stock and cravat, his powdered wig worn en queue and tied with a black ribbon bow; the latter, wearing cornflower blue dress edged with white embroidery, white lace fill-in, black lace fichu crossed over her chest and ribbon choker, her powdered hair upswept beneath a white lace mob cap dressed with blue ribbons.
The former signed on the obverse and dated J.S./ 1770; the latter signed on the obverse J.S. and indistinctly dated, gilt-metal bracelet clasp mounts.
