Herbert De Odingsells Coke (1864-1890), wearing dark grey coat with red facings, gold and silver shoulder cord epaulettes suspended from a white riband.
Signed on the obverse E. Rinzi, gold mount, engraved on the obverse Herbert De Odingsells Coke/ entered into rest Octr 9th 1890 Aged 26, brown leather travelling case, the silk lining bearing gilt crest, mole-coloured velvet mount.

Footnotes

  • Herbert was the third of eleven children born to William Sacheverell Coke (1805-1896) of Brookhill Hall, Derbyshire and Sarah Kift Deane (d.1870) of Cape Town. Three of the children of Herbert's younger sister, Frances Geraldine Coke (1869-1957), are portrayed in lot 135.

    A Lieutenant in the Derbyshire 5th (Sherwood Foresters), Herbert did not marry and died without issue.
