Continental School, circa 1820
A portrait miniature of a Husband and Wife; the former, wearing black coat, burnt orange waistcoat, white chemise, stock and knotted cravat; the latter, wearing violet dress with grey waist-belt and jeweled buckle, double-tiered white lace pelerine with gold embroidered collar, her dark hair curled in ringlets framing her face and upswept beneath a sky blue and white lace mob cap, tied with ribbons beneath her chin, she holds a bouquet of flowers at her right.
Pierced gilt-metal and split seed pearl frame, the reverse glazed to reveal a gilt-mounted aperture, set with the gilt-wire epigram GAGE D'AMITIE, surrounded by a faux tortoiseshell border.
