Mme Jeanne Doucet de Surigny (née Glaesner) (French, active 1791-1806)
Two portrait miniatures of Etienne-Cyprien Renouard de Bussièrre (1736-1794), Marquis de Roche and his wife, Marie Suzanne Doucet de Surigny (1751-1825): the former, seated on a grassy hillock in a wooded landscape, wearing brown coat, white buttoned waistcoat, stock and cravat, dark sienna breeches and fawn riding boots, his powdered wig worn en queue, he holds a book in his left hand and a silver-handled walking cane crooked in his right elbow; the latter, standing in a draped entrance to a boudoir, wearing navy blue pelisse over white embroidered muslin gown with apricot lining, gold hoop earrings, her curling hair falling to her shoulders beneath a white turban, she holds a sprig of violets in her left hand and pulls back a green curtain with her right.
The former, signed on the obverse Mme Doucet; the latter signed on the obverse Fme Doucet, both gilt-mounted on rectangular turned wood frames: the former bearing handwritten label inscribed, Mr Bernard/ Mr Renouard de Bussière/ Seigneur de Roche/ arrière arrière Gd Père de Bernard de Pourtalès; the latter also bearing a handwritten label inscribed Grand-Mère de Mon Père/ arrière arrière Gd Mère de Bernard de Pourtalès/ Mme Renouard de Bussière/ née Doucet de Surigny/ la même que représente le grand pastel donne
