Sold with a black and white photograph of crew of the E31, gold tie pin of the submarine E31, and a later passport sized photo. Some contact marks and polishing, otherwise good fine or better. (Lot)

    Walter Samuel Rogers was born on 29th May 1892, he was from Poplar, London, and is noted as a Warehouse Boy on enlistment. He enlisted in 1909, at the start of the war he served on HMS Maidstone which was the depot ship for submarines. He then served from 1st July 1915 on HMS Adamant (E2) in the Dardanelles until 31st March 1916. From this he transferred to the Cruiser Europa then to HMS Dolphin. In March 1917 he transferred to HMS Maidstone (E31) until the end of the war. He completed his service in October 1928. He worked at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne and died in 1964.
