    For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. A sudden burst of heavy shelling caught a party of infantry, who scattered, leavin one man lying in the road. He, who was standing near, alone rushed out from the cover and attended to his wounds and started to try to carry him into cover, but before he was able to do so he was severely wounded in this very gallant attempt.
