Attica, Athens, Drachm, 467-463 BC
4.23g. Starr Group IIC-87 (same dies). This is an extremely important coin. It is from Starr Group II, where very few drachmas (10) have thus far been recorded. The head is wonderfully centered and shows most of the crest of the helmet, the hair below the helmet, the complete neck, as well as the pearl necklace that Athena wears. The reverse is nearly complete, only missing the owl's tail feathers. AΘΕ is to the right of the owl. The drachmas of the entire Starr Group period are extremely rare and those as early as Group II are almost impossible to find. Only one coin of this class pictured in Starr is better than this example.
