Footnotes

  • Attributed to William Stracker who served aboard H.M.S. Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The lot comes with a certificate to William Stracker signed by Captain W.Hardy confirming that he served on board HMS Victory between the 9th April 1803 to the 13th January 1806, and another showing him serving aboard HMS Ocean from 24th April 1806 to the 14th April 1809 signed by Captain R.Thomas. There are discrepancies between his age and his height between both certificates.

The certificate that covers his Trafalgar service makes further mention of prize money for all captures during that time.
