A pair of large, Canton famille rose vases
19th century
Each one enamelled on the baluster body with medallions of apparently narrative scenes, butterflies on flowers and peacocks in a peony garden, all framed by peony tendrils and reserved an a gold-enamelled, scrolling floral ground; the flaring neck enemelled en-suite and decorated with a pair of appliquéd gilt chilongs on each side and two handles designed as a Buddhistic lion and cub group playing with an iron-red, brocade ball.
