A waterline model of the Passenger ferry SS Queen Mary 1933
Built by J Garven wood in 1990. Composite hull, painted black to the waterline with white superstructure. Cream decks with inscribed plank lines. Details include passenger benches and ship's boats on davits. Set on a painted, moulded sea in an acrylic case. 37x10x11ins. (94x25x28cms)

  • Built by William Denny of Dunbarton for Williamson-Buchanan, for their service from the Clyde to Rothesay and Arran. Originally named Queen Mary she added the ll, at the request of Cunard in 1935, so that the name could be used for the Atlantic Liner. Kept in service throughout the war, she finally was retired in 1977 and laid up at Greenock. In 1981 she was moved to London and stationed on the Victoria Embankment as a restaurant ship, where she remained until 2009, the intention then being to tow her to La Rochelle to fulfil a similar function. However, by 2011 she had failed to move from Tilbury Docks, was subsequently auctioned and is now awaiting further developments. A preservation group is trying to get her returned to Scotland.
