To All concerned Home and Abroad From ADMTY.
Following received from CinC Med addressed ADMTY: Begins be pleased to inform their Lordships that the Italian Battle Fleet now lie at anchor under the guns of the Fortress of Malta. TO11103B 111920A

Footnotes

  • Following the invasion of Sicily, the Italian King Victor Emmanuel deposed Mussolini and replaced him with Marshal Badoglio, Army Chief of Staff, who immediately started negotiations with the Allies. An armistice was agreed on September 3rd and as part of this the Italian fleet steamed to Malta, where they arrived on September 10th.
