The Liverpool tug Calgarth running down and sinking the Fleetwood trawler Victoria II, 29th May 1946
bears inscription 'The fisherman's lot. The Fleetwood fishing fleet had its proportion of old time sailing smacks. One of these small craft came to grief on a night collision with loss of life to the crew. Tug Calgarth, Liverpool, Tilbury, Victoria II, 1946' on label on reverse

Footnotes

  • The sailing trawler Victoria II was built at Porthleven in 1897 and, after numerous changes of ownership, was sold to E.G. Wright of Fleetwood in May 1941. On 29th May 1946, she was rammed and sunk in thick fog by the Liverpool tug Calgarth about 16 miles N.N.E. of Liverpool; 3 of her 4 crewmen lost their lives.
