'The date on this drawing appears to read 27 June 1835, but this raises difficulties, since on that day Constable was giving his postponed evidence in the case of a disputed Claude painting (Corr., IV, pp. 168-70; V, p. 186). Constable is not recorded to have paid any visits to Lady Dysart around this time. But he had received a letter of 23 April 1835 from Abran Constable about the condition of the Bentley woods which Golding Constable managed for Lady Dysart (Corr., I, p. 289) and was in the habit of keeping her informed on this topic.' Reynolds p. 276.
