    Darío de Regoyos was born in Ribadesella, Asturias, 1857. He studied at the San Fernando Royal Academy in 1878, where he was a student of Carlos de Haes and entered the École Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels the following year. Regoyos' painting style evolved from naturalism to the pre-symbolism of his 'La España negra' series. In later years his work developed impressionistic tendencies and a move towards Pointillism.

  • ILLUSTRATED: Juan San Nicolás , Maestros del Arte de los siglos XIX y XX, Dario de Regoyos, Barcelona 1990, volume I, p. 217. (illustrated in colour). The work is entitled 'Emma Bogaerts cosiendo' (Emma Bogaerts sewing) The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Juan San Nicolás and will be included in his forthcoming Dario de Regoyos catalogue raisonné to be published October 2013. Dario de Regoyos lived intermittently with the Bogaert family from 1879 to 1886 at 161 rue Royale, Bruxelles. The artist produced three pictures of Emma Bogaerts, two of which are oil on panel and the third a pastel. This work is believed to have been painted c.1883.
