dark green patination, on a naturalistic base, signed BARYE, stamped HB C underneath, and with two old paper labels inscribed No 229 tigre gavial and 6, raised on an oval Verde Antico marble plinth, 51cm wide x 19.5cm high

  • The present bronze is stamped HB to the underside, possibly an indication that it was cast by H. Brame, who acquired the mould for this model in 1876 after the sculptor's death. Barye first created this model in 1845.
