Sarah Siddons (1755-1831), wearing blue and dove grey striped dress, white lace fichu, black ribbon choker and Gainsborough hat, trimmed with feathers, her hair powdered and worn à le conseilleur.
Oil on copper, erroneously signed on the obverse Gainsborough, faux tortoiseshell frame with mother-of-pearl inlay; together with two further portrait miniatures of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806) (After Gainsborough, 19th Century) and Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux (1636-1711) (Continental School, 19th Century); with an unfinished portrait of a Gentleman (Continental School, 19th Century); two portrait miniatures of Ladies (Continental School, 19th Century); and finally, a copy of the 'Madonna della Sedia' (After Raphael, 19th Century), various frames.
