Etienne Le Noir, Paris
surmounted by a winged herald on a caddy over tapering sides with long glazed panels on scroll feet surmounted by cast female heads, the door centred by an elaborate group depicting the abduction of Hippodamia, the bracket with inlaid Vitrutvian scrolls and other decoration, the front corners further set with female masks, the 10 inch cast dial with applied cartouche numerals with blue Roman hours, with blued steel hands and a shaped drapery enamel signature cartouche below VI, the spring driven movement with verge escapement and silk suspension, numbered outside countwheel strike on a bell for the hours and half hours and repeating the hours and quarters on a futher two bells and three hammers, 1.28m (4ft 2.5ins) high.

Footnotes

  • Etienne Le Noir was a second generation clockmaker who worked in Paris' Quai des Orfevres from 1743 until his death in 1778. Le Noir also supplied watch movements to Lazare Duvaux, Jeweller to the King, who mounted the movements in pieces of jewellery.

VAT at 20% will be payable on the amount of the premium.
