the dancing figure of Bacchus pouring wine onto the baby below, the base modelled as a barrel of wine with grapes and vines, above a canted square plinth, signed Holweck, raised on a Rouge Griotte marble plinth with a plaquette inscribed LE VIN Acquis par le ville de Paris Par Holweck Salon des Beaux-Arts, 57cm high

  • Louis Holweck exhibited the original plaster version of this bronze at the Paris Salon of 1888, and the bronze version in 1891. According to Kjellberg, Reproductions of the original were cast in 1899, and it is likely that this includes the present cast.
