Footnotes

  • This model was first produced by Barye's own workshop in 1857. The original plaster version is now in the musée du Petit Palais, Paris, and an example cast by Barye's own foundry is in the Louvre. A. Jacquemart purchased the mould for this model after Barye's death from his workshop sale in 1876, and Barbedienne used this original mould to cast the present example.
The model is illustrated in M. Poletti & A. Richarme Barye Catalogue Raisonné, Gallimard, Paris, page 299.
