the dial and movement by Erasmus Mickelwright, London circa 1690, the associated case of the same date with possibly later inlay to the door
the square topped hood with overhanging cornice over a pierced fret supported on spirally twisted columns, the long trunk door inlaid with two shaped marquetry panels depicting birds and sprigs of flowers on an intricately inlaid base panel, the 11 inch square brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels interspersed by foliate engraving, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks enclosing the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds and decorated date aperture, the weight driven movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on a bell 2.05m (6ft 8.5ins) high.
