A beech framed and needle-work upholstered open armchair
French, 19th century
The rectangular back worked in gros-point with a crane standing in water surrounded by foliage, the stuff-over seat with similar foliate decoration, the downswept open arms headed by carved harebells and terminating in scroll-ends, raised on scroll carved legs joined by a conforming wavy scroll-carved H-shaped stretcher, 65cm wide x 73cm deep x 117.5cm high, (25.5" wide x 28.5" deep x 46" high)

  • The underside of one seat rail signed in pencil Emile Halbersh?. The inner frame is reputedly also signed Emile Halbersh and G.Bermé, dated 185(3/7)? 29 November, these names possibly refer to the embroiderer/upholsterer/maker.
