Played at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, engraved verso '1986 S.G. Birtwell' complete with red leather box together with two Official Order of Play programmes and other ephemera.
Geoff Birtwell an English International and Lancashire County player had been the runner-up in the 1970 English Amateur Championship. In the 36 hole final of the 1986 Amateur Championship, the 41 year old Birtwell was beaten by the much younger David Curry 11/9.
