Showing Elijah by the brook of Kerith (1 Kings, Chapter 17: 5 - 7), his face, hands and the brook drawn on silk, he seated in a red robe beneath a leafy tree, an open book on his lap, with trees beyond, framed and under glass, 54cm wide x 62.5cm high, together with a 19th Century needlework of children playing at a water pump, with trees to the left and a house to the right, a girl in a red dress working the pump, framed and under glass, 58.5cm wide x 47.5cm high, (2)

Footnotes

  • The first needlework in this lot bears several paper labels to the reverse. Of these, one typed label states that, during framing in 1987, the probably original paper label below it was found. The 19th Century label reads 'Mary Ann Nicholson. Her work was drawn on April 20th 1821 at Becklington School, Fairneychesters.' Ferney Chesters is in Northumberland.
