Three 19th Century oval needlework pictures
The first depicting Britannia, worked in both wool and silk, she portrayed as at war, with martial plumed helmet, with breastplate and flowing skirt, a shield and a cherub holding a red flag at her left hand, her right hand raised and holding an olive branch, the crouching lion of England at her right side, with the sea, with sketched ship, beyond in a verre eglomisé-type frame and under glass, 40cm wide x 47cm high, the second a Scottish boy beside a grave, wearing a red doublet, with a tartan kilt and fur sporran, in his left hand a hat, his right hand holding a book and resting on a gravestone, a tree in the distance, framed and under glass, 37cm wide x 42.5cm high, the third an oval interior scene of a lady at her embroidery, wearing white cap, red dress and white apron, stitching a piece of cloth upon her lap, a table and window behind her, a doorway with lantern before, all within an embroidered border of pink, cream and blue flowers against an ivory silk ground, framed and under glass, 42.5cm wide x 48cm high, (3)
