A fine Charles I oak folding or credence-type table
Salisbury, of upright slender proportions
The canted fold-over hinged top above lunette carved rails, centred by a frieze drawer flanked by split-bobbin mouldings, an applied geometric carved rail below, raised on ring-turned supports joined by an undertier of S or chain carved rails, turned feet, 77cm wide x 38cm deep x 86cm high, (30" wide x 14.5" deep x 33.5" high)

The signature Salisbury S or chain design is present on the undertier rails of this lot. For examples of Salisbury armchairs displaying this type of decoration, see Jellinek, Early British Chairs and Seats, p. 108, Pl. 114 and p. 109, Pl.116. Two of the chairs illustrated also have similar lunette carving to the back top rail as found on the frieze rails here (Pl. 113 & 114). One of the chairs with similar lunette carving is attributed by Chinnery to the Beckham family workshop, p. 451, Fig. 4:65.
