Like Hornel, MacGeorge hailed from Galloway and studied in Antwerp under Verlat. However despite similarities in their choice of subject, MacGeorge's style was generally more naturalistic than Hornel, especially on the few large-scale canvases he completed circa 1900 which constitute his best work.
