Footnotes

  • Provenance: By family repute, this ring was commissioned in the early part of the 20th century by the owner of a successful Cincinnati department store, the son of a European couple who had emigrated to the USA in the late 1800s. He built his business from scratch and presented this ring to his wife to mark a 'significant milestone'. It was then passed by descent, until it was bought by the current owner's aunt, a friend of the original family.
