A pair of blue and white tea bowls
Bearing 'qing hua zhen pin' [Precious object of pure splendour] mark
The interiors painted with stylised lotus flowers within double circle roundel and rim band, the exterior painted with further stylised lotus among scrolling foliage between bands of scrolls at rim and ruyi heads at foot, with wooden stands and box,
9.8cm diameter

Footnotes

  • Purchased from Moon Gate, Elegant Art House, Singapore, 4th June 1966 for $150. The receipt gives the bowls to the Daoguang period (1821-1850) however, Gerald Davison dates this mark to the Guangxu period (1875-1908), entry 1977 in 'The New & Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics', published 2010.
