A Victorian Scottish silver presentation cradle
with maker's mark of JR, probably for J.Reid, Glasgow 1898, retailed by Douglas & Son of Greenock
Of boat shaped form, one side depicting the Greenock Municipal Buildings in relief, surmounted by a boss of the Greenock Coat of Arms and motto, the other side Bartolozzi's engraving 'Adoration of Children', surmounted by a boss of the crest and motto for the Erskine family, the body further embossed with cherubs, flowerheads and foliage and with a quiver of arrows at each corner, both ends surmounted by a cast bird, the interior gilt, the whole cradled on ormolu supports to a hardstone base with applied presentation plaque, contained within a fitted wooden case, length 48cm, weight 53oz.
