An Edwardian mahogany ladies writing desk,
Made by Claude Neil, Glasgow, (1871-1956)
The upper section with hinged moulded lid and carved with paterae, above two doors carved with cherubs and foliage, on pierced brass hinges, enclosing a hinged writing slope and single drawer, raised on square section tapering supports united by flat stretchers and with decorative struts to the back and sides, 69cm wide x 37cm deep x 127cm high, (27" wide x 14.5" deep x 50" high)

  • Claude Neil was born in Ballantrae in 1873. He was a Technical Drawing teacher in Glasgow and also a master cabinet maker. His work was exhibited in the Kelvingrove Museum on many occasions.
