A Victorian gilt metal dirk of the 74th of Foot, (Highland) Regiment of Foot
The 34.5 plated etched blade with faceted back edge and single fuller on each side, the blade etched with foliage and Queen's crown above VR cypher over the Order Of the Thistle and camel's head with motto 'Perservere', 'Assaye' an elephant and 'LXXIV' the obverse engraved with stand of arms and thistle with the battle honours of 'Seringapatam, Fuentes D' Onor, Badajos, Vittoria, Nivelle, Toulouse, Busaco, Ciudadrodrico, Salamanca, Pyrenees, Orthes, Peninsula', carved wood basket weave hilt set with studs, the pommel set with a cut glass 'stone', with gilt metal thistle embossed mounts, in its leather covered scabbard with thistle embossed mount, the locket centred with St Andrews above companion knife and fork mounted ensuite, the companion knife stamped 'John Sellers', their compartment embossed with an elephant 'I Assaye and 74', all heavily embossed with thistles.
