A Regimental 1854 Pattern Officer's Sword of the Scots Guards
82cm blade by W. Cater & Co Ltd, 56 Pall Mall, S.W., etched with foliage, crowned GRV cypher, regimental badge, a Sphinx, 18 battle honours to South Africa 1899 -1902 and owner's initials E.A.C.L., regulation plated steel hilt incorporating regimental badge, wire bound fish skin covered grip, in its field service scabbard, complete with knot of brown leather strap and acorn.

Footnotes

  • The sword of Earnest Alfred Collyer Lloyd. He joined the 1st Lovat's Scouts in August 1914 and saw service Gallipoli and Egypt. In January 1917 he exchanged into the 3rd Battalion Scots Guards and went to France where he was attached to the 1st Battalion. He was killed on the 31st of July 1917, the first day of the 3rd Battle of Ypres-Passchendaele while gallantly leading his men forward into action.
