A Regimental 1886 Pattern Cavalry Officer's Sword the 15th The King's Hussars
88.5cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, numbered 35308 for 1897, etched with foliate scrolls, crowned VR and Royal Arms, regimental badge and title and owner's initials B. R. in a panel, patent solid hilt with regulation steel scroll guard, chequered horn grip, in its leather scabbard with large plated steel mounts, complete with sword knot of leather strap and acorn.

Footnotes

  • The sword of Blyth Ritchie. Ritchie joined the Royal Irish Rifles in 1894, and transferred to the 15th Hussars in 1807. Lieutenant 1899, Captain 1907, retired 1912. Between 1914 and 1919 he served on the staff as Brigade Major, Scottish Horse, and saw service in France, Belgium and Gallipoli. In 1919, he was awarded the OBE 'for valuable services rendered in connection with the war'. He died in 1936. Sold with further details, copies of his birth and death certificates, and a photocopy of a group photograph.
