A Fine Silver Hilted Rifle Officer's Presentation Sword
83cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VR cypher, slung bugle horn, a stand of arms, and presentation inscription, the silver hilt (not hallmarked) cast and pierced with scrolling foliage and ribbons, crowned Royal cypher, and a slung bugle horn, the back piece cast with foliage and a classical helmet, wire bound fish skin covered grip, in its silver plated scababrd, with two suspension rings.

  • The innscription reads: Presented to Captn Blick by the Non-Commissioned Officer's & Privates of the Droitwich & Hanbury Company of the 18th W.R.V. Jany 1866.

    John Blick was born 5th January 1831 at Doddeswell near Droitwich. He was first commissioned as Lieutenant June 1860 in the 18th Worcester Rifle Volunteer Corps, formed at Droitwich. A Major by 1876, he appears to have retired in 1881.
