Essex Yeomanry a Trooper's Helmet.
An adapted 1871 pattern heavy cavalry helmet, the brass skull with standard pattern quadrant and plume holder, the back strap of Household Cavalry pattern and large size lions mask side ornaments. The leather lined brass chin chain of standard pattern. To the front broad oak and laurel bands enclose a rococo shield, this is in white metal with a KC over a motto circle 'Audacter Et Sincere', in the voided centre a shield bearing the county arms. Red horse hair falling plume and leather liner. The helmet is most probably a trial pattern c. 1908/09 and has a distinct Imperial German cuirassiers appearance.
