A 19th century hardstone fob seal
The oval cornelian panel carved with a depiction of the Three Graces, the reverse depicting Heracles and the Nemean lion, within a gold openwork frame, length 5.2cm.

  • In Greek mythology, the Three Graces were elegant goddesses who lived on Mount Olympus and presided over the arts and social activities, symbolising the beauty and grace of young women. Heracles, warrior and son of Zeus, strangled the Nemean lion with his bare hands.
