- SCARCE FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST ENGLISH BOOK DEVOTED ENTIRELY TO TENNIS. The author was secretary of the tennis club at James Street, Haymarket in London, which had been formed in 1820. "Tennis is universally admitted to hold the first rank amongst games of manual skill..." (Introduction). Lukin provides an overview of the history of the game, followed by detailed instructions on how to play, and the rules.
